TEMPORARY LABOURER - Distribution/Collection Operations

Aquatera is Alberta’s first municipally owned regional utility for water, wastewater, and solid waste. We serve the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, Town of Sexsmith and beyond. We strive to be an exemplary employer.



We are currently recruiting Temporary/Seasonal Labourer positions for our Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection department. This job is for physically active people who get a great deal of satisfaction from doing the job right every time. 

Highly motivated, independent workers will enjoy the opportunity to work with small crews to accomplish big things and to support Aquatera’s culture of continuous improvement.  We have extended health benefits available for returning seasonal employees.  There is also a possibility that the position could turn into full-time employment depending on staffing requirements.  You will be working a 40 hour work week.


  • Able to do physically strenuous work in all weather conditions

  • Must possess and exhibit a strong safety acumen

  • Mechanical inclination an asset

  • Must be able to work independently and complete all assigned jobs

  • Ability to operate all equipment in assigned area of responsibility

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to adjust to operating conditions and recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment

  • Smoking restrictions are in effect.

  • Travel to remote areas may be required.

  • Must be a Team Player

  • Safety footwear is required


  • Excavation of water and wastewater infrastructure

  • Line flushing

  • Valve exercising and painting

  • Operating equipment and working outside in all types of weather

  • May be exposed to noise, fumes, dust, dirt, odors, chemicals

  • Other duties as required


  • High School or equivalent education

  • A clean class 3, 2 or 1 driver’s license with air brakes is an asset

  • Possession of First Aid, H2S, Fall Protection, Confined space, and ground disturbance certificates is an asset.

  • Skill in using a grease gun, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and various other hand and power tools

  • Ability to use computers and electronic equipment

  • Knowledge of the work hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned equipment

  • Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved with the operation of equipment

  • Knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulations and Code

  • Backhoe experience excavating around other utilities is an asset 

Pay rate is in accordance with the current C.U.P.E. Collective Agreement. This is a temporary role starting in April and ending in late October, 2018.
